Florida communities aim to get youth "Ready by 21"

Are you concerned about your child’s future? Well no need to worry, because six leaders from Florida communities have accepted a challenge from a nonprofit organization to help build new ways to get the youth “Ready by 21” for college, careers, and life.

Seminole, Florida -- It's the last day for Pinellas County students- so end it with a party!

Wednesday, June 5, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is hosting Kid's Appreciation Day. 

Kid's Appreciation Day will include free refreshments, games, prizes and other contests mostly geared towards elementary children. 

The Sheriff's Office will be on site kicking off their summer safety initiative by teaching kids bicycle safety and giving parents tips on how to keep their children safe during the summer months.

Largo, Florida -- Looking for something fun for your child this Summer? The City of Largo is offering two weekly specialty camps including Barbie® Camp and All American Dolls camp for children ages 5-10.

Get ready to accessorize with Barbie® Camp where campers can bring their own dolls and get dolled up with up-dos and have mini manicures and pedicures. Campers will also create crafts that will include Barbie® jewelry for themselves and their dolls. Bring a bathing suit and towel for swimming on Friday.

Largo, Florida -- The Armed Forces History Museum is pleased to announce the return of the Memorial Day Family FunFest on Monday, May 27th, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Discounted tickets are now available and are priced at just $10 for adults and $5 for youths 4-12.   The Memorial Day Family FunFest is part of the Maggi Tax Advisory and Veterans Solutions 2013 Special Event Series and is sponsored in part by Clearwater Toyota and Q105.

Largo, Florida - Gather up the family, grab a blanket and head out to Largo Central Park for this year's Movies in the Park Series, held on select Friday nights in April and May. Themed activities for children will take place at 7 p.m., followed by the featured movie at dusk.

Movie dates include: April 19, April 26, May 3 and May 10. A special campfire around the fire pit is planned for each of the April movie dates. On-site parking and concessions will be available.

Largo, Florida -- Does your child enjoy nature, animals and love the outdoors? The City of Largo's McGough Nature Park is offering Naturemania, a unique summer camp jam-packed with nature related activities for children who have completed grades 1-5.

Each week, campers will hike on trails, hear from guest speakers, explore the nature park, head to the swimming pool and make arts and crafts.

The City of Largo's Rec and Read summer camp will focus on literacy (reading, storytelling and writing) and fitness/wellness (sports, swimming, nutrition and cooking) through a variety of fun activities, games, swimming, guest speakers and field trips.
