Hillsborough defeats Largo 29-23

Largo, FL - Trailing 16-7 at the half, Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia decided to give backup running back Jeremiah Green a chance.  

Green responded with 108 yards and two touchdowns, including a 77-yard run in the 4th quarter that helped seal the 29-23 victory for the Terriers.

With the win, Hillsborough moves on to face Armwood, who advanced with their 35-31 comeback victory against Lakewood Ranch.   Armwood beat Hillsborough 38-16 back in October.

Largo gears up for the playoffs with a 42-21 win over Gibbs

It was the final regular season game for the Largo Packers and it was some fine practice for the playoffs. Packers whipped up on Gibbs 42-21.

Largo scored 3 times in the first quarter and led it 7-0 when Spartan Gary Simon scored 6 on a 75-yard kickoff return to tie the game. 

But the rest was all Packers.

Derrick Doss scored on a 95-yard kickoff return to make it 14-7 Largo.  Packer quarterback Juwan Brown tossed a 78-yard strike to Lakeif Daniels to put Largo on top 21-7 after the first quarter.

Former Largo QB waiting for next NFL opportunity

LARGO, Fla. -- Marcus Paschal was the quarterback at Largo High School back in 2001 when the Packers brought home their first district title in a decade. He then went off to the University of Iowa where he was a 3-year starter and, after that, it was off to the NFL as an undrafted free agent to the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Football is a part of me, it runs through my veins. I've been playing this game since the age of nine and I think it was instilled in me since I was in the crib," said Paschal.

7-time District champion Largo thumps Tarpon Springs 38-10

Largo, FL -- You might call this one, practice for the playoffs.  The Largo Packers went into Friday night's game having already clinched their 7th consecutive district title.

But head coach Rick Rodriguez was looking for more while hosting the Tarpon Springs Spongers. 

Packers with the back, Juwan Brown finds Raheem Harvey for the 25-yard touchdown and puts Largo in complete control.

Packers send Lakewood Ranch packing 42-22

Fresh off of Coach Rick Rodriguez's 100th win the Largo Packers played host to Lakewood Ranch Friday.  And the Packers picked up right where they left off, quickly jumping out to a 21-0 lead.

By halftime it was 28 to 6 as the home team was putting on quite the show.  In the second half Largo added two more scores as the both Derrick Doss and running back Harry Brown found the endzone.  Brown lead the way on the ground for the Packers as he had 138 yards on 11 carries.

Hot 101.5 Player of the Week

Largo, FL-- The Hot 101.5 Player of the Week, is Largo HS running back Derrick Doss.

The junior back opened the game against  Boca Ciega, by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown.  He followed that up with a running touchdown, then followed that up with a passing touchdown.

The Packers defeated Boca Ciega, 35-20.

 

Largo holds off Boca Ciega comeback to win 35-20

A big second half for the Boca Ciega Pirates wasn't enough to overtake Largo as the Packers scored a game sealing touchdown to beat Boca Ciega, 35-20.

The Packers went into this 6A district 7 game looking to move closer to a spot in the playoffs and they had to hold off a fierce second half comeback by the Pirates to get it done.

Largo led it 7-0 when Derrick Doss returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Largo stretched their lead to 28-7 at the half.
