Third-grade FCAT math and reading scores static

Tallahassee, Florida - This year's FCAT results are out for reading, math and writing and they show improvements in writing and little change in math and reading.

In third grade reading, 57 percent of students scored a three or higher on a five-point scale and are considered proficient readers. That's up one percent from last year.

Pinellas County, Florida - Some Largo residents and students should plan for traffic delays and alternate routes during the first week in June as CSX Railroad continues a county-wide project of replacing rubberized crossings.

Officials say both Rosery Road and 8th Avenue SE will close for a minimum of three days during the construction- most likely on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

Man sentenced to 12 years for child pornography

Largo, Florida -- A 62-year-old has been sentenced to yesterday to twelve years and seven months in federal prison for transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography.

David Lee Franklin has also ordered him to forfeit computers, hard drives, and assorted CDs and DVDs that were involved in the offenses.

According to reports, an undercover detective downloaded multiple image and video files depicting child pornography from Franklin over several months beginning in November 2011.

AAA offers "Tow To Go" service Memorial Day weekend

Tampa Bay, Florida-- It's hard to imagine why one would risk getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, but AAA's "To to Go" program makes it that much harder.

According to AAA's website, "To to Go" offers intoxicated drivers a free, confidential ride to a safe place within a 10 mile radius, along with a free tow for their car.

Water system maintenance program set to begin

Pinellas County, Florida -- The method of water treatment utilized by Pinellas County and its wholesale customers will be temporarily modified between May 29 and June 17, 2013. This short-term change from chloramine to chlorine disinfection is a routine maintenance measure designed to optimize water quality.

Ireland Nugent meets first responders who came to her aid

Largo, Florida -- It's EMS Week, and what better way to honor the team of Sunstar paramedics, Bayflite pilots, and Pinellas County 911 dispatchers who helped Ireland Nugent, than to let them meet the little girl whose life they helped save?

"Her life means more to us than anything," Ireland's mother, Nicole, told first responders as they met the family on Wednesday. "She crawls around and plays and laughs and giggles like nothing ever happened."
