Getting prepared for storms- don't forget your pets!

Pinellas County, Florida -- When a storm comes to town residents are urged to evacuate with their pets.

Pinellas County pet owners have options when it comes to finding safe places to ride out a storm. 

The best and most comfortable option for Pinellas County pet owners is a home of a friend, relative or coworker who lives outside of the evacuation zone. Arrangements should be made well in advance of the arrival of a storm.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Pinellas County Human Society has a goal: get 999 dogs and cats adopted in three months. 

To kick-off this event, there is a name your price adoption event with a special Preview Party on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

There will also be games, face painting (for kids), an Ask-A-Trainer booth, and much more. 

The goal is to have 150 cats and dogs find new homes this weekend!

The event will be held at 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, Florida.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Thinking of adopting a pet sometime soon? In August, Pinellas County Animal Services will be celebrating all month by offering reduced adoption costs for both dogs and cats. 

During the month of August, $5 rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a license will be available for pets each Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. The adoption fee will be reduced to $25.

St. Petersburg, Florida -- Pinellas County Animal Services will be closed on Tuesday, May 21 for in-service day. 

This will affect the Pinellas County Animal Services located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in largo.

Regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will resume on May 22.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Humane Society of Pinellas is holding a photography contest for kids!

In honor of "Be Kind to Animals Week" children and teens can enter the contest by submitting a photo they took of a pet being treated kindly- or is just happy. There will be two age groups: 6-11 years and 11-16  years. 

The contest will run now through May 31 and is open to all children between the ages of 6 adn 16.

Largo, Florida -- The Kiwanis Club of Largo is sponsoring the 7th Annual Pawfest!

On Saturday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. people can head over to Largo Central Park and participate in fun games!

Make sure to bring your favorite pooch to participate in games,activities, lessons, and demonstrations. Spoil him or her with the bounty of products offered by the many vendors specializing in pet related products.
